The Information
Services and Data Analysis Division provides a variety of
quantitative services with emphasis on:
- Data Management and Analysis
- Economic Impact Analysis
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Information Technology
Clients select customized services that best fit their needs.
Data Management and Analysis
Data management services are provided to both internal and
external clients. Services include database construction,
data entry, data administration, and document management
systems. Data analysis is also provided to internal and
external clients. Services include data collection, statistical
analysis, and statistical reporting with emphasis on statistical
information systems, database statistics, statistical studies,
process management metrics, and program evaluation.
The Information Services and Data Analysis Division has
developed "Paper
Free: Customized Document Management Systems
from the Northeast Florida
Regional Council." Unique
document management systems can be customized for anyone
needing to reduce, or eliminate, large volumes of paper
movement and storage. Human service providers, non profits,
counties, and municipalities may be especially interested.
These document management systems, along with associated
workflow processes, provide computerized scanning of paper,
annotation, and paperless filing.
The Council is an invaluable resource for economic, demographic,
social, and development data in both statistical and GIS
form. The Council has access to population data from the
University of Florida, the U.S. Census Bureau, and various
state agencies. Staff responds to numerous information requests
from local citizens, member governments, media, and other
organizations. The Council also maintains a planning library
open to the public. A Population Web Site is under development.
The site will provide a computer-based, web-accessible,
comprehensive collection of population and associated data
for Northeast Florida, including statistical population
projections for counties and municipalities.
Economic Impact Analysis
The Information Services and Data Analysis Division partners
with the Planning Department to contract with clients to
perform economic impact studies. The Council owns and operates
an economic impact model that was custom built for the Northeast
Florida economy by Regional Economic Models Inc. Use of
this premier analytical model provides a unique opportunity
for clients who are interested in the economic impact of
their operations on the regional economy. It is also used
by economic development professionals in their work to attract
and retain businesses in Northeast Florida.
The Council has extensive experience in economic impact
analysis. For example, a major economic impact study was
completed for the Jacksonville Port Authority to assess
the cruise ship industry and its economic impact on Northeast
Florida. Another major study was completed to assess the
economic impact of the Duval County Health Department. And
a third major study analyzed the economic impact of higher
gasoline prices in Northeast Florida. Furthermore, the Planning
Department has completed numerous economic development analyses
over the past few years. These studies have been used by
local governments in the decision making process with regard
to proposed projects, policy initiatives, and incentive
packages.
Geographic Information
Systems
Using GIS software, spatial information (e.g. maps) can
be captured, stored, analyzed, displayed, and retrieved.
The Council offers a full range of GIS services including
technical assistance to counties and municipalities, GIS
training, customized mapping, and analysis.
The Council hosts the Northeast Florida GIS User Group.
The Group serves more than 180 professional members that
gather quarterly to share best practices and discuss matters
of interest to the community as they relate to geographic
information reporting.
Information Technology
The Information Services and Data Analysis Division includes
the Information Technology function for the Council. The
Division provides both local and widearea network services
for staff and clients. Services include network administration,
server administration, desktop support, data storage and
security, web site hosting, e-mail services, site security
systems, and voice communications.
